Governance of integrated infrastructure
Jochen Monstadt holds the Chair of Governance of Urban Transitions at the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University and is visiting professor at the Laboratoire Techniques, Territoires et Sociétés (LATTS), Paris. His research and teaching interests revolve around the contingent and place-based transformation patterns of cities and how these are mediated by technical infrastructures. His specific interest is how the socio-technical design and governance of those critical systems shape the sustainability and resilience of cities in the global North and South. Apart from leading an interdisciplinary research hub on urban and infrastructure transformations, his current research projects focus on energy governance in East Africa (NWO), urban water, energy and food resilience in Cape Town (NWO/NRF) and the governance of urban heating transformations in Europe (H2020).
