Infrastructure Aging and Deterioration
Infrastructure suffer from deterioration over time due to aging, regular operation, and extreme loading/environmental conditions. Deterioration may considerably reduce the service life and reliability of such systems, and is becoming a growing problem for infrastructures around the world. Therefore, it is critical to model and incorporate deterioration in the analysis, design, and operation. How can numerical modeling help predict the service life and reliability of infrastructure? How to incorporate deterioration in time-variant performance analysis, such as time-variant fragility, reliability, risk, and life-cycle performances? Are there coupled effects of multiple deterioration processes? Should the modeling consider spatial and temporal variations?
