Associate Research Fellow, Sustainable Buildings Research Centre

Dr Daniel Daly is an Associate Research Fellow at the Sustainable Building Research Centre (SBRC) at the University of Wollongong. He has experience in the assessment of the energy performance and optimal upgrade strategies for educational, commercial and residential buildings. His PhD research explored the best methods to improve the energy efficiency of lower quality office buildings, using extensive building energy simulation, qualitative analysis, and case study investigations. During his PhD research, Daniel was awarded the Endeavour Research Fellowship to spent time at the Energy Institute, at the University College, London. Daniel was also a core member of the UOW Solar Decathlon China 2013 competition winning team, which successfully demonstrated how to retrofit a typical Australian home to be a high-performance, net-zero energy homes.  More recently, Daniel has been working on how to characterise and optimise residential buildings in Australia at a stock level. This has included work on aggregating buildings using dwelling typologies, the development of a housing stock map for key energy related characteristics, and work towards a range of building assessment tools and resources.
